Why is personal data collected?
The processing of personal data always requires a legal basis, and the hobby organiser must keep this in mind when collecting personal. In other words, personal data should never be collected ‘just in case’. The law requires hobby organisers to collect certain data about participants, however. For example, the Associations Act requires associations to keep a register of their members, including the full name and place of residence of each member. If a child or young person joins an association when starting the hobby, the law thus requires the association to collect certain data about them. The collection of personal data can also be based on consent, for example. If that is the case, the participant gives their consent for the processing of their personal data in the hobby activity when the data is collected.
